This chair is an exploration of the natural curvature of wood, and its interaction with the human body.
The shell is constructed of 5 strips of ash, soaked and then bent on a free form jig. The jig dictates a seating surface and a back, connected by two points, allowing the natural tendencies of the wood to create the connecting curve between the two.
A weft is then woven between these strips to provide structure. The resulting weave functions to indicate the seating surface. The finished shell is minimally attached to a thin steel frame, providing enough support to hold up the user, but still feel the natural curvature and flexibility of the wood as it conforms to the body.
